Rumblin', Bumblin', and Stumblin' News- 5/16/08 Edition It feels good to post this again after a 2 month stint on the DL (disabled list). Trying to make a joke of course because the my team, the Yankees, are a joke at this point coming into this game at 20-22 playing the Mets. Anyway, lets get to the news... Rumors are swirling, mainly Pete Abe from LoHud Yankees Blog, that Willie Randolph may not last the weekend has Mets manager. I can understand from what I've heard on WFAN that this team has no fire and probably is going to need a change but where are they going to hire and who are they going to hire? Jerry Manuel? Joe Girardi will be on the coaching staff of Terry Francona at the 79th All-Star game at Yankee Stadium. (Source) Congrats to Joe Girardi on the honor and to be honest Francona has a lot of class naming him to the staff. Willie Randolph on the other hand could be a question mark all the way to All-Star weekend if the Mets don't shape up. Speaking of the Yankees, if you fans like to know about the minor league players that could get a shot at the big club before September or during the month of September. I suggest you read this post by Peter Abraham again. (Source) I'm really glad the Yankees have improved their system since the beginning of the decade and now in case they need to trade for someone, they can. For right now, their main focus is the pitching staff. My readers can also click on my blog roll to the Minor League Baseball link to your right to see how the minor leaguers are doing or check yankees.scout.com. Brandon Webb continues to keep on winning (lets hope the Yankees don't have to face him) as now Webb as now won 9 consecutive starts. Now this feat was last done in 1985 when former Padres pitcher, Andy Hawkins, won 10 in a row. (Webb keeps on winning) As Scott Kazmir was signed by a Rays to a 3-year contract extension, the Brewers have signed their young rising superstar, 3B Ryan Braun, to a 8-year contract. (Braun stays with the Brewers for 8-years) Mr. Braun gets to sign the biggest contract in Brewers history, if you can believe it. Now his new contract runs out in 2015 and could get $51 million with incentives. This is rare that I post this because I hardly watch horse racing. I was watching the Kentucky Derby and for the people who did watch the Derby you saw the winner (Big Brown) of the race but was quickly overshadowed by a tragedy of a fallen horse, Eight Belles. Eight Belles has a result suffered compound fractures of both front legs at the fetlock joints. For more info on the autopsy of Eight Belles, click here. Boston Herald sports writer, John Tomase, expresses regret over the Spygate scandal with the Patriots. (Source) For the fans that do care about hockey, the Penguins still have a 3 games to 1 series lead over the Philadelphia Flyers. The Penguins did lose to the Flyers on Thursday 4 to 2 but the Flyers have a long way to go to catch up get to a Game 7. Game 5 will be on Sunday, May 18th at 3:00 p.m. on NBC (local coverage). Also the Detroit Red Wings are up 3 games to 1 series lead over the Dallas Stars. The Stars won on Wednesday 3 to 1 and will be on Saturday on NBC at 1:30 p.m. Posted by Paul M. Fiore

Spygate claims new (and correct) victim

Spygate claims new (and correct) victim Posted by Rick on May 14, 2008 Former New England Patriots’ Assistant Matt Walsh met separately yesterday with Commissioner Roger Goodell and Senator Arlen “Magic Bullet” Specter. No doubt that Bullet Boy will end up venting his wrath on the NFL in general and the Patriots in particular, but it was worth noting that Goodell immediately commented to the press that his four hour meeting with Walsh provided absolutely no new information… the information Walsh provided was consistent with what the New England Patriots had disclosed and for which they had already been penalized. End of story? Almost. You see, there’s this little matter of the Boston Herald reporting an unsubstantiated story about the Patriots taping the walk-through of the Rams prior to the Super Bowl in 2002. Walsh’s story to Goodell indicated no such walk-through ever happened, by Walsh or anyone else. Here is the Herald’s response: Newspaper says Spygate story false, apologizes BOSTON (AP)—The Boston Herald has apologized for reporting that the New England Patriots videotaped a walkthrough by the St. Louis Rams one day before the two teams played in the Super Bowl in 2002. In the apology, published in the newspaper’s Wednesday edition and posted on its Web site, the Herald said it now knows the report was inaccurate and that no tape ever existed. The apology came one day after former Patriots video assistant Matt Walsh met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Walsh told Goodell he did not tape the walkthrough and had no knowledge of any other Patriots employees having done so. The Herald’s Feb. 2 story, published one day before New England’s 17-14 Super Bowl loss to the New York Giants, was based on unidentified sources. Does the Herald really believe this is going to end with an apology? While Matt Walsh was protected by the NFL for stealing materials belonging to the team, the Herald gets no such protection for making up a story that served to pile on the Patriots when their reputation was getting hammered, and came a day before the Super Bowl. If I am Robert Kraft, I sue their a$$es off… and I am generally not one inclined to yell “lawsuit”. But this case merits it. For being a Boston newspaper, the Herald has a palpable anti-Patriot bias. If they want to hate the Patriots, fine. But they need to be taught a lesson about making crap up and publishing it. Thus, the newest recipient of the Golden Momo is… the Boston Herald.
