Internet Videos Show Kids How To Get High

    http://www.everythingparenttoday.com/2008/10/07/internet-vid...

The director of the White House war on drugs said on Monday that Internet videos that show people getting high pose a dangerous threat to teenagers by encouraging them to use drugs and alcohol. John Walters, director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, spoke as his office released a study about drug-related videos on popular sites such as MySpace. He said in a Reuters interview that parents need to monitor their teens’ online activities. Walters said the often amateurish videos, posted by Internet users on video-sharing pages and social networking sites, play up everything from cocaine use to smoking marijuana with a device called a bong. "Parents would be horrified to think that people are sneaking into their house to encourage their kids to build a bong or to chug on beer at age 13," Walters said. "The fact is those people are sneaking into your house through your Internet connection on your computer," he said. Walters advised parents to check the browser history on their teens’ computer. Also, since the videos are posted on sites where teens meet other Internet users, Walters said parents should look at text messages and incoming and outgoing phone numbers on their teens’ cell phones. The World is Crazy, Here's Proof

    http://www.waynejohn.com/post.aspx?id=c90060ca-6a56-4936-b92...

Just when you thought it was safe to wake up, have some breakfast and catch the news... The headlines in today's paper are not only showing how people are trying to cope with America's economic issues, but also how some people still cling to century old traditions that just seem...well, stupid. Here are some that caught my eye this morning. Upset over finances, man kills family, self - Exactly how bad does it need to get for one to shoot his entire family over financial issues? Here's a man that bought a handgun with every intention of finishing off the family. Did I really need to know this? How is this news to me? It's not. Mortgage forgiven for 90-year-old who shot self - After Fannie Mae purchased her mortgage from defunct CountryWide, Addie Polk shot herself as sheriffs grouped outside to evict her from her home. She's fine now, and feels that shooting herself was a bit over-the-top. Nepal declares young girl new living goddess - Here's a doozy. Take one girl with perfect skin, perfect hair, perfect eyes, perfect everything and then put her through a battery of tests to see if she can be the next living goddess. Yes, it's every girls dream in Nepal to become Nepal's Next Living Goddess. At only three years old, this girl will have people bow before her and place their foreheads on the little girls feet as a show of high respect until she is an adolescent. She will live in some fancy place, and when puberty strikes, she'll lose her status as a living goddess. She'll be rejected and sent back home at which point she'll prove she really wasn't a goddess at all as she tries to adjust back to normal life. Hope the gods favor her social skills because this will probably make her one elitist bitch. Good going Nepal! 86 cats rescued from a 2 bedroom Colorado Condo - Yes, even though I may be a big fan of the pussy cat, 86 cats seems to be a bit much for a 2 bedroom home, and a condo no less! Saving animals is a big deal for me, but 86 of them seems to go a bit over the top. Apparently the cats were in need of a bath. Do you smell something? Government Warns of higher winter heating costs - From the desk of 'No shit?' comes this story about our government trying to warn those that use fuel oil to heat their homes to expect much higher prices. You would think they would leave the obvious for the mainstream reporters to cover, instead, here's our tax dollars at work informing us the obvious. Internet videos show kids how to get high - Just when you thought the Internet was safe to swim again, here's a wonderfully positive story about how videos are being used to show kids how to do drugs. Hell, they already get their sex education from the Internet, why not the next adult bastion of pleasure, drugs! Colon cancer screenings can stop at 75 - Being a single, elderly gay person has just become a bummer. Apparently, the benefits of being violated in the pooper just don't outweigh the risks anymore when you're beyond 75. One might ponder how one can get from age 40 to 75 without having to deal with a doctors finger up the ass. Hell, if the doctor is cute, perhaps I'd volunteer. That's all, I have to run off to work now and try to avoid any more news. It's a great feeling to be able to read the news and walk away from it extremely depressed and grasping for a bit of sunshine and positive energy. Thank you corporate mainstream media for making my day start off on the right foot. Bastards.

Is the Internet teaching your kids how to get high?

There are so many things for parents to worry about when it comes to their kids and the Internet. Well, let me draw your attention to another one. Check out this Reuters story about videos on sites like MySpace that are how-to guides for getting high. The story deals with a new study released by the Office of National Drug Control Policy that looks at drug-related videos. The study found that 5 percent of Internet teens saw at least one such video in June - the month the study was conducted. Among the content seen in these videos was footage of teens driving while getting high. John Walters, director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, says: Parents would be horrified to think that people are sneaking into their house to encourage their kids to build a bong or to chug on beer at age 13. The fact is those people are sneaking into your house through your Internet connection on your computer. When I hear that 5 percent of Internet-using teens saw these drug-related videos in a given month, I have to admit I’m a little surprised. I expected the number to be higher. But surely we can toss this drug thing into the larger issue of kids and the Internet. Whenever I talk to parents, I like to ask: What sort of steps do you take to monitor your kids’ Internet activity? Do they have a computer in their room? Do you use any sort of content-blocking programs? Do you ever look at the browser history, etc.?

    A Dribble, A Drabble

I have no idea where that came from, but it sums up my “spattering” of news information this morning.  I ran across a few articles today on MSNBC that really intrigued me, and figured I would share some of it with you.  So here we go… I’m quite excited about Tina Fey and the SNL crew pulling off the annual mocking of the elections/debates and political figures this week.  Now, this article reveals that Sarah Palin might just show up to give Tina a run for her money with impressions.  Who does a better Palin than Palin?  I’m so hoping she brings Bristol The Pistol (yes, I made that up, and yes, I think it’s funny) with her. Nepal has chosen a new “living goddess.”  This article describes the process by which the “goddess” is chosen and then brought to the religious city of Katmandu.  My favorite part?  The candidates for goddess need to have perfect physical traits, not be afraid of the dark, and sleep one evening with a room full of slaughtered animals.  In other words, I would not be chosen.  Perfect physicality and the whole sleeping with dead hamburger don’t get me; I just had a night light until I was in high school in my room. In case you were wondering, I have found my new soulmate in Colorado. Not gonna lie, as a professional bachelor myself, I was quite worried when reading the headline on this article.  Turns out that it’s more for stupid people who read the instructions on the box of Mac & Cheese before heating it up. I’m really quite interested to see how this all pans out.  Not sure if I should be a bit worried that Americans prefer cars that look angrier. Damn!  Where were these videos when I was a kid?  I had to learn how to get high from my D.A.R.E. classes.
