Il vincitore del Diagram Prize for Oddest Title of the Year di quest’anno, con 8500 voti, è If You Want Closure in Your Relationship, Start With Your Legs di Big Boom (che dite, è uno pseudonimo?) con 2870 voti. Il secondo posto è andato a I Was Tortured By the Pygmy Love Queen, il terzo a Cheese Problems Solved e il quarto a How To Write A How To Write Book. (Per qualche informazione in più, vi rimando all’articolo del Guardian). Bah, a me è sembrato un anno fiacco. The Telegraph (UK) lists the 110 books that you need for the perfect library. Last week, the New York Times ran an article about the pitfalls of dating literary snobs (it’s not you, it’s your book…). This week, the Telegraph offers: “If you’re trying to bed a book snob, hide the Ayn Rand…” The literary award for the year’s oddesst title (there is one) goes to…If You Want Closure In Your Relationship, Start With Your Legs In book business news, HarperCollins reports that they have a new division that is going to try a new business model by slashing author’s advances and disallowing returns of unsold books by bookstores. Ein überflüssiges Buch mit einem bizarren Titel

Übersetzt lautet er "Wenn du willst, dass deine Beziehung dir das zufriedene Gefühl von Endgültigkeit gibt, dann fang bei deinen Beinen an." Auf Englisch: If You Want Closure in Your Relationship, Start with Your Legs. Das ist feinsinnig, wortwitzig, aber halt doch etwas manieriert. Mir gefällt so etwas, aber das zum Titel gehörige Buch ist wahrscheinlich ein ziemlicher Scheiss. Der Autor verbirgt sich hinter dem Psyeudonym «Big Boom», und im Untertitel heisst es: "Eine Anleitung, die Männer zu verstehen." Da gehöre ich ohnehin nicht zum Zielpublikum. Anyway, closure ist eines meiner Lieblingswörter, und ich freue mich, ein witziges Beispiel für seine Verwendung gefunden zu haben. Wie der Guardian Unlimited vermeldet, hat dieses Buch eine Auszeichnung als schrägster Buchtitel 2007 erhalten. Unter den Gewinnern der vergangenen Jahre hat es mir The Big Book of Lesbian Horse Stories (2003) besonders angetan - selbstverständlich wegen der Ambiguität.
