Rocket man flies on jet-powered wings
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/ id/ 24617833/
Some people go fishing on their day off. Yves Rossy likes to jump out of a small plane with a pair of jet-powered wings and perform figure eights above the Swiss Alps.

SPOTD #140
http://blog.spotd.net/2008/06/spotd-140.htmlI've been out of town, and it's been a while, but I have some good stuff for you. Today's phrase: One of those idioms that doesn't translate exactly. Actual: Con el dinero baila el perro. Phonetic with emphasis on bold syllable: Cone ail dee-nair-oh by-lah ell pay-roe. Translation: With money the dog dances. It is an idiom, and the English meaning would be "With money anything is possible." You may not agree, but its a cool idiom. Still Running This is a great story about an Iraq vet who continues to play lacrosse despite losing his leg in the war. Pirate? This is a great story about a woman who is fighting back against the RIAA's efforts to prosecute music sharers. So Hot This is one of my all-time favorite cars, the McLaren F1. I saw one in London when I was 12 years old and it remains unique to this day. Donate High School blood donors are more likely to face complications, but they are also among the best source for donated blood in a time when more and more people are getting tattoos and piercings that can inhibit your eligibility to donate. Jet Packs! Who doesn't love jet packs? Honestly! Link of the Day This is a really fascinating story about an untouched Indian tribe in the Amazon.

Upgrades and Downgrades — Rocketry, profits, and no end in sight for eco-guilt
http://www.upgradetravelbetter.com/2008/06/05/upgrades-and-d...Upgraded: Self-service air travel It’s not for everyone (yet) but who wouldn’t want to strap on wings and jet engines and hit the skies at 186 mph? Rocket-powered Yves Rossy points the way. Click the video above to see him in action. Nuts. Upgraded: Ryanair profits in a time of high oil prices Continental and United may be laying off workers and cutting flights wholesale, and other airlines are folding (see: Silverjet), but EuroCheapskate Supreme Ryanair’s profits went up 20%. But they’re not completely immune from the price of oil: They predict they’ll break even, going forward, if oil were to hover around $130/bbl. Try breaking even at that price in the US of A. Downgraded: Appeasing your eco-guilt The U.N.’s International Civil Aviation Organization is creating a standard for carbon offsets for air travel, to create some sort of standardization to this unregulated low-information market. Good, in theory. But it’s controversial, of course. “The calculator measures only carbon dioxide emissions from burning jet fuel, and will ignore other, possibly multiplying warming effects from water vapor and nitrous oxide emissions.” Upgraded: Non-sequitur headlines Confusing headline: “Sector roundup: Airlines, diabetes meeting.” Give that airline a shot of insulin!
