But to be fair, the people that surround her -- ace producer brother Mark Ronson, clothing designer twin Charlotte Ronson and of course actress/singer/'razzi magnet Lindsay Lohan -- keep the laid-back Ronson's name in the air even though it seems she'd much rather spin records than go on the record. So it was a surprise when Listening Post got to join Ronson (above) behind the turntables at MySpace’s TechCrunch50 party in San Francisco and talk to the DJ. While working the mix, Ronson gave her insights on blogging through the bullshit, looking out for her siblings and getting tech geeks to dance. “A lot of progressive polka music,” Ronson deadpanned when asked how she got the jeans-blazers-and-lanyards crowd to move. Looking down at my notebook she gestured to her own quote and said, “You know that’s a joke, right?” Right. Considering the three-hour set Ronson played slalomed from George Michael to Lil Wayne to Guns N’ Roses without missing a beat, there wasn’t much room for prog polka. So, would Ronson ever release a mixtape? Nah, she says, too much legal hassle clearing the tracks “I just make them for my friends.” The DJ did turn some tricks at Monday night’s gig, one specifically a nod to Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher’s recent jab at her brother. Ronson played Jay-Z’s “Jockin’ Jay-Z” and dropped in Oasis’s “Wonderwall,” when the rapper mocks the song in his rhyme. The Grammy-winning producer, responded in rather cheeky form saying “I just wanted him to know that I'm actually taking guitar lessons from Jay-Z right now and he's already taught me both chords to ‘Wonderwall’ (tune!)." “Fuck Noel Gallagher,” said Mark's younger sister. “He gets more airtime from dissing other people than he does from music. I get fiercely loyal about my brother; you can’t fuck with just one Ronson.” As for the other flap encircling the DJ, rumors flew at the TechCrunch50 party that Lohan might be in the house, but I cannot write what I didn’t see. Those dying to know the latest about Lohan and Ronson can check People.com, apparently they have round-the-clock coverage. Ronson doesn't have a publicist and typically doesn’t respond to much of what’s written about her in the press but will occasionally vent on her blog. A highlight being a post in which she fact-checked the New York Post's Page Six by pointing out that she wasn't even in town when the paper said she and Lohan skipped out on her twin sister's birthday party in New York. “Every now and then something pisses me off enough that it’s like smoke coming up from the keyboard,” Ronson said, miming furious typing on the MacBook Pro that had heretofore been controlling the mix. Being able to write exactly what she wants to say “cuts through the B.S.,” she said. Not that it's all just bravo sierra. On Thursday Ronson posted a solemn remembrance of life in New York following September 11 and "watching things on television that felt like a film -- walking through a city that felt like a war zone." However, it wasn’t until recently Ronson realized anyone in the media was reading her blog. At first she seemed to enjoy the positive attention and good publicity she was getting for her relationship with Samantha Ronson. But that must have gotten old, because then she started acting old school Lindsay and being all tacky and rude. Then there were rumors that she and Samantha were breaking up. Now it seems like even Lindsay Lohan, the queen of all photographer’s subjects, is tired of the spotlight. Although Lindsay’s rep said it wasn’t awkward, apparently the actress was constantly rubbing Samantha’s back to comfort her.
