http://online.barrons.com/ article/ SB122359593027021243.html?mod=rss_Page_One
The Dow industrials plunged 678.91 points, or 7.3%, to 8579.19, falling for the seventh straight day, or more than 20% over that stretch. The decline leaves the U.S. in one of its worst bear markets in decades.

Stock Market Crash
http://www.deanesmay.com/2008/10/10/stock-market-crash/Welp, Wall Street is certainly having a truly scary-seeming week. I suspect this all but guarantees an Obama victory in November, although he still won’t get my vote. Still, I’m now expecting Democrats to get that massive rout they were hoping for earlier this year. People usually (usually) run to Democrats when they feel afraid for their livelihoods. Well, most Middle and Lower-income people do, anyway. (Again, usually.) I’m not sure whether to have jitters about the market anyway. If I had any savings left (they’re already depleted) I’d do my best to be steely-eyed and refuse to pull any of my money out of the stock market, or to panic and try to shift everything to “safe” stocks or mutual funds. If you want to ride the stock train, even just mutual funds, you have to be prepared for a bumpy ride, even very scary bumps.

Palm Warns of Q2 Loss, Nobody Surprised
We had heard last week that Palm was planning some layoffs for the holidays, and although we don’t have the number of pink slips being handed out, recent warning of second quarter losses indicate that they hope to shave off $20 million in expenses in order to stay afloat.
