    The Final Chapter

    http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2008/5/16/519474/the-final-chapte...

Dave Meltzer has a piece up on the final chapter of the Tito-Dana feud: "This guy went on Howard Stern and said he was getting $200,000 a fight, White said. That was such a lie. Tito made $5.8 million in 2006. He only fought once in 2007. He made

Tito Ortiz numbers dont lie ? Elite XC takes note

    http://fightingsportsonline.com/2008/05/17/tito-ortiz-number...

Tito Ortiz numbers dont lie ? Elite XC takes note 17 May 2008 Dave Meltzer from Yahoo!Sports.com breaks it down as Tito Ortiz possibly heads into his last fight inside the Octagon against Lyoto Machida at UFC 84: “Ill Will” at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 24: “Ortiz has had more fights (21) in the Octagon than any man in history. He was the longest-reigning champion in company history, a three-and-a-half year run as light heavyweight champion from 2000-03. And the Huntington Beach, Calif., native headlined the company’s two most successful pay-per-view events in matches with Ken Shamrock (770,000 buys) and Chuck Liddell (1.05 million), and the company’s highest rated television special (3.1), in a third match with Shamrock.” He’s doing something right, whether or not you think he’s overrated, all talk or just in it now for the celebrity. Put simply, Tito draws … look no further than next weekend — the show has been sold out for weeks. And he is more than likely a primary reason for the high interest in tickets. Ortiz is in the last fight of his contract, which is clearly not going unnoticed by other promotions out there that are eager to cash-in on his star power. Elite XC, and its Live Events President Gary Shaw, are among them. Here’s a snip: “Of all my years in the fight game, I know one thing that I could see, touch, smell and feel, and that is a star and a superstar. Every time I see Tito Ortiz, he reeks of stardom. I think I can even better his days in the UFC. I think I can reincarnate Ortiz. He is a talented fighter and has all the mechanisms that you need to make someone a superstar. Can you imagine Tito Ortiz and Kimbo (Slice) in the cage together one day? My door is open. I hope that he’s able to negotiate one day because I would never interfere with a contract. I hope he’s sitting right next to me, not across from my desk, but right with me.” Sounds like the perfect match. Posted by FightingSportsReport

Included in the laundry list of questions were questions regarding the way Dana White behaves when it comes to doing business. Well, according to Adam Swift, Mark Dion has plenty of complaints when it comes to doing business with UFC: The complaint closely follows the contours of the arbitration proceedings, except for the inclusion of Zuffa, White, and Silva for allegedly interfering with Dion’s management contract with Vera. Specifically the complaint alleges that Zuffa and its officials encouraged Vera to breach his contract with Dion and provided him with confidential emails to use in that effort. I have ribbed Mauro Ranallo about this in the past, but make no mistake about it - Johnson (in an interview with Bill Simmons on ESPN) was very serious about getting into MMA. You can’t go wrong with both Mauro and Gus doing the PBP. With that stated, a lot of casual sports fans associate Johnson with NFL, March Madness, and Knicks on MSG telecasts. I am surprised that more people have not picked up on this story, since Johnson is a real darling of the various big sports blogs in the States. Here is an Associated Press article on Frank Shamrock joining Gus & Mauro on the broadcast team. Mark & Matt Hughes made quite an impression at the NRA show. Jared Barnes has all the details right here. What makes the story interesting is that in a May 5th news update on our site, we posted a link to a South Florida Sun-Sentinel news article titled UFC champions Antonio Nogueira, Anderson Silva partnering on fight academy in downtown Miami. If the accusations/allegations in the Barnes report are true, then the supposed ‘cover’ wasn’t exactly a well-kept secret. Results from today’s Sengoku event in Tokyo at Ariake Colosseum. More thoughts at the Total MMA web site. Onto today’s headlines. The Final Chapter (Bloody Elbow)

    http://www.mrsport.it/2008/05/the-final-chapter-bloody-elbow...

Dave Meltzer has a piece up on the final chapter of the Tito-Dana feud: “This guy went on Howard Stern and said he was getting $200,000 a fight,” White said. “That was such a lie. Tito made $5.8 million in 2006. He only fought once in 2007. He made $710,000 for that fight (with Rashad Evans) and that was the third match from the top (on the card). He goes around saying we made $231 million last year. He’s a moron. This guy talks about what a businessman he is, and he was on ‘The Apprentice’ and he doesn’t know the difference between revenue and profit.” “There’s not going to be any bidding war,” White said. “Gary Shaw (promoter at Elite XC) should offer him $30 a fight, because we’re not going to match it.” So I think it’s safe to say there will be no reconciliation… No tags for this post.
