In the Guardian, Margaret Atwood celebrates Anne of Green Gables. Anne of Green Gables was first published in 1908, a year before my mother was born, so when I first grinned and snivelled my way through it at the age of eight, it was a youthful 40. I

    Radiohead will record after tour

    http://consequenceofsound.net/2008/05/06/radiohead-will-reco...

Radiohead will soon return to the studio to begin recording the followup to In Rainbows. It just won’t be before the start of their U.S. tour, as initially anticipated, since after all, it did kick off last night. In an interview with BBC Radio 1, guitarist Ed O’Brien revealed that the English natives will return to the studio following the last of their tour dates, which will be sometime in October. “Because by the end of the tour, you’re bored of what you’re playing. “You need more life and energy and the only way to do that is writing new songs.” Sadly for fans, O’Brien won’t be pushed on when the new songs are likely to be unveiled. He said: “It could be five years, it could be the end of this year, it’s whether it’s any good, that’s the point. “We’ve just got to do it and see if it’s any good.” Whenever the album is released, unlike In Rainbows, it will not go through the “pick your own price” release process.

A piece on Frank O'Hara in the New Yorker. " . . . the dominant paradigm of innovative verse in the United States today, namely the synthesis of Language poetry and the New York School. Within this paradigm, questions of poetic ontology are superseded by those of poetic epistemology: the substance of the word is considered as a social construct having no immediate relation to the substance of the world. Skepticism replaces enthusiasm: and poetic practice, once proclaimed to be a force of nature by the Romantics is (re)socialized as a means to criticize what is rather than to create what is not."--Andrew Jaron from Language As Ghost Condensate Colin Greenwood of Radiohead talks with Pitchfork. An interview with Jorie Graham. Cystic Fibrosis Fact: Infertility affects both men and women. At least 97 percent of men with cystic fibrosis are infertile. These men make normal sperm but are missing the tube (vas deferens). Many men found to have congenital absence of the vas deferns during evaluation for infertility have a mild, previously undiagnosed form of CF. Some women have fertility difficulties due to thickened cervical mucus or malnutrition. In severe cases, malnutrition disrupts ovulation and causes amenorrhea. Samuel Beckett and poetry.
