The Czech Republic believes that the threat the shield is designed to counter comes from Iran and other "rogue" regimes. But Poland's stance is dramatically different.

A Polónia tem feito os fretes todos a Washington, inclusive enterrar-se no lodo iraquiano. Em troca sente que recebeu pouco e faz agora a vida negra a uma Administração Bush que, nos derradeiros meses da sua existência, quer deixar trabalho feito no sistema de defesa anti-míssil. E que para isso precisa da anuência de Varsóvia... Independentemente do mérito das respectivas posições negociais americana e polaca, das virtudes ou defeitos do projecto de defesa anti-míssil, e do debate sobre a urgência da ameaça iraniana, é refrescante assistir a um diálogo negocial transatlântico entre dois aliados, em que ambos defendem os seus interesses: ao contrário de outros casos, em que os EUA defendem os seus interesses, e o parceiro, paralisado pelo sentimento de "privilégio" de estar á mesa com Washington, vê no baixar da própria fasquia negocial a melhor maneira de agradar aos EUA e ganhar assim "acesso privilegiado aos corredores do poder em Washington". Se os polacos conseguirem sacar o que querem sacar aos EUA por causa de dez mísseis interceptores, imaginem o que uma equipa negocial portuguesa à séria sacava em troca da Base das Lajes...http://rpc.twingly.com/
