  1. Social Media Marketing: think agile software

    http://blogs.electricsheepcompany.com/giff/?p=600

During my lunch blog-browse, I ran across two posts that hit on different sides of the same issue: are social media marketing projects falling short because they take a build-and-ship approach?  Today projects need to focus on near-term ROI, which ostensibly is a good thing, but this is leading to risk averse behavior from CMOs. …

  2. NYTimes on MySpace advertising struggles

    http://blogs.electricsheepcompany.com/giff/?p=599

There have been a number of articles recently about the challenges big social networking sites have faced in monetizing their audiences. I think that there are two issues going on here: 1. the type of ad interaction needs to improve, and 2. advertisers and their agencies need to come up to speed and get comfortable with these new mediums. …

  3. Social Gaming Summit, links to coverage

    http://blogs.electricsheepcompany.com/giff/?p=598

Sadly, I was too busy to attend the Social Gaming Summit, but hope to make it through some of the blog coverage.  I’m storing up my links to browse through below: Jeremy Liew, one of the key organizers, has a good roundup here Joey Seiler of Virtual Worlds News, and a moderator on one of the panels, …

new product was built on emotional-design principles and used new flash-based technology. We thought the SecondLife community would be a great place to get some initial learning about our new product from early adopters. As we started building with Electric Sheep Company, I realized that this space could be much more than just a product showcase. We were looking at the island prototypes with a Welcome Area, an auditorium, a product pavilion, office space and a ballroom--dancing is popular in SecondLife, and afterall

in the financial services). Other companies continue their efforts (e.g. L’Oréal and Peugeot) and develop new initiatives. Charlene Li of research company Forrester is outspoken about marketing and virtual worlds, as I read on the blog of the Electric Sheep Company: She was asked about big 3D virtual worlds like Second Life in the Q&A, and responded that they were not useful for marketing but that they could be useful for internal collaboration and learning.

    Where are the Smart People?

    http://secondthoughts.typepad.com/second_thoughts/2008/03/wh...

the best and brightest of SL -- the sort of real FIC, the Noopsherists as I call them. They are a little snotty, however, by not letting anyone but their screened and filtered crowd become actual writers/members/posters, but only join a fan group. o The Sheep Blogs. I'm going to give them a "credit of faith" and keep them on the smart list. Forseti Svarog and others there were consistently putting out smart commentary. Again, as I keep explaining, I don't have to like or agree with commentary to dub it "smart".

    It's Corey's Turn

    http://blog.mindblizzard.com/2008/01/its-coreys-turn.html

is that many companies and consumers are now avoiding that world. Linden Lab is going through some internal turmoil and may be on the verge of lean times itself. Even staunch Second Life cheerleader IBM has people wondering if it's hedging its bets by mocking virtual worlds (the second article)." Except for calling ePredator a cheerleader (can someone photoshop this?) I pretty much agree. However, I don't read Corey's column as the words of a thoughtleader in the industry. While naming a few very valid points, its tone is
