Here I Raise My Ebenezer
"Here I Raise My Ebenezer" is an outlet for creating and sharing short sermons, insights on scripture, and prayers. I especially look for refreshing and relevant ways to read and interpret the Bible. I received my undergraduate degree at Harvard University in 1995 and a Master of Divinity from Duke Divinity School in 2003. I am from the Methodist/Wesleyan tradition and am working toward ordination in the Church of the Nazarene. Regarding the title of the blog, Ebenezer means "stone of help," and was the name of a monument raised by the prophet Samuel, saying, "Thus far has the Lord helped us." (1 Sam. 7:12) The hymn "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing" includes the line, "Here I raise mine Ebenezer; hither by thy help I'm come." Through God's grace you and I have made it to today. Our job is to praise God for getting us here and trust him to bring us through tomorrow.
