By Joshua | April 29th, 2008 | No Comments » I’d like to belatedly join Peace Corps Polyglot (blog of the National Peace Corps Association) in wishing Worldview editor David Arnold well as he moves on. After 14 years of transforming and improving Worldview magazine, which as a result of his vision and work is so much more than a mere alumni

Bad words from a big stage

    http://murch9.blogspot.com/2008/01/bad-words-from-big-stage....

Peace Corps country director Robert Strauss wishes that we could go back to the good ol' roots of the organization. These days, he says, "young volunteers lack the maturity and professional experience to be effective development workers." Myself and many others find that Strauss' statements are so off point that it is hard to believe he was once a volunteer. Strauss claims that in 1961, college grads were more useful to developing countries than they are now. Today, he says, "it’s much less clear what

    "Too Many Innocents Abroad" Reverberates

    http://peacecorpsconnect.multiply.com/journal/item/303/Too_M...

For two days it was among the Times' most e-mailed articles. It sparked lively discussion on numerous RPCV group listservs, on Facebook and, of course, on this blog (see the comments in the previous post, Response to Times Op-Ed "Too Many Innocents Abroad."). On Sunday the Times ran several letters to the editor in response to the Strauss piece, including one from current Peace Corps Director Ron Tschetter. You can read them here. And this morning, Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT), a returned Peace Corps

    Mourning the M-bag

    http://amherst01002.blogspot.com/2007/12/mourning-m-bag.html

shipping method, cheap, take as long as you like, slow boat, surface mail (the M-bag) no longer existed. The M-bag died on May 14, 2007, and with it the incalculable value of the paper diplomacy of ideas, stories, poems, and literacy programs. Myriad scholars, book dissemination non-profits, and generous individuals who believe in the value of ideas, of sharing books, and of literacy, have been struck hard by this passing.

Tom has asked that this very generous gift be used to support the planning and organization of the most successful Peace Corps gathering ever. “NPCA is enormously grateful for this splendid gift,” says NPCA President Kevin Quigley.
