Are you looking for a unique fascinator for a special event such as a wedding, prom, ball or party? Then welcome to the wonderful world of Kitty Kanzashi and her little tsumami hana kanzashi. In this blog I chronicle my life and creations. So you may be asking, what are kanzashi? Simply, they are Japanese hair ornaments and hana kanzashi means flower hair ornaments. Using the technique called tsumami (pinching) from Japan, squares of fabric are folded into delicate petals which are used to create the flowers. These flowers are then arranged into fascinators. Designs range from the more traditional styles worn by maiko in Japan to the modern styles which uses other materials to add a twist to arrangement. Every effort is made to use the traditional method of construction however the use of modern day adhesives (such as hot glue) are sometimes required to stand up to the the wear and tear of modern day life.
