Backpacking around South America six months ago, I logged onto my e-mail only to find the news about the proposed introduction of Internet Filtering at the ISP level to “protect the children”. It made my blood boil, because such a move has far and wide reaching implications beyond protecting children. …

Organisations need to be a size 12
http://Liako.Biz/2008/06/organisations-need-to-be-a-size-12/Last week at the top 100 web applications launch, Ross Dawson made a brief remark that I feel should not go ignored. He said that technology aside, companies like the ones in the top 100 list have a huge impact on our society; They are redefining our society as a whole, with new ways of doing things such as how organisations are structured. …

It’s the experience that matters
http://Liako.Biz/2008/06/its-the-experience-that-matters/One of the great things about working on the DataPortability Project, is the exposure to some amazing thinking. Today alone, I stumped on this great piece questioning the point of a music label (via Crosbie Fitch ). Separately, I also came across this interesting bit of thinking about imagining what a world would look like without copyright . …

Trends in the Living Networks
http://rossdawsonblog.comlive-streamed the event on Ustream from a webcam on his laptop, but unfortunately the video didn’t record properly :-(. And two particularly noteworthy responses to the event: Elias Bizannes did an fantastic post titled Organisations need to be a size 12 which took up on some of my and others’ comments at the event about changing economic structure and the appropriate size of organisations in a connected economy. Highly recommended – I think the issue of changing organisational size is one of the

Advertising model
http://www.moonlightmileblog.com/2008/06/advertising-model.h...I started this post a few weeks ago after reading the Top 100 Web Apps in Australia list. I had this real unease at the number of businesses on the list that were relying on the advertising model. Courtesy of Elias

Liako on Experience
http://overheardonline.com/2008/06/09/liako-on-experience/move forward with DataPortability, the thinking of businesses can change. Locking down data is not how you make money; it’s the compelling experience you offer your consumers that is the true source of competitive advantage and ultimately, revenues. Liako on Experience

Value Chain for Information - The Movie!
http://binaryplex.com/2008/06/01/value-chain-for-information...Two ideas have converged. Elias Bizannes wrote about the Value Chain for Information which I have been thinking about, then I saw Sacha Chua’s Web2.0 @ Work which was done with a Nintendo DS and got really excited about wanting to make something similar. The main difference is I wanted to try make mine as an actual movie, rather than

Feed me an API: He who does not work, shall not eat.
http://blog.behindlogic.com/2008/05/feed-me-api-he-who-does-...Take note, Facebook, Plaxo, Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, and every other proprietary system out there! Feed others before you just feed off all their hard work. A good read for background understanding, try The Value Chain for Information, by Elias Bizannes. The root of the value chain for information is access to the information in the first place. If you have exclusive access to a piece of information, then you have a monopoly on the entire chain of value for that information. With

Is data portability important for the enterprise?
http://binaryplex.com/2008/05/23/is-data-portability-importa...Gia Lyons tweeted “[can someone tell me] the value of the data portability movement for enterprises, i mean. Not consumer sites”. I thought I’d put my thoughts down here, not least because I know that Elias Bizannes and Chris Saad, both players in the Dataportability movement occasionally stumble across my musings and will no doubt carry the conversation back to Gia. So, while under time pressure to watch a movie with my wife, here are three reasons to describe

BarCamp Perth 2.0 - We came, we saw, we caught bird flu
http://myles.eftos.id.au/blog/2008/05/12/barcamp-perth-20-we...Put 80-odd geeks in a room and magic happens, which is what happened on Saturday at BarCamp 2.0, Perth. It was a fantastic turn out - we even got a couple of east coasters (Thanks @marclehmann and @liako) to enjoy the frivolities. Although, due to me running around like a blowfly with it’s head cut off, I still manged to get a couple of great presentations, which could lead to some seriously cool ideas which is all you can ask from a BarCamp.
