News Briefs
http://thedivinemissm.wordpress.com/2008/05/13/news-briefs/However, news in recent weeks have made me want to stay tuned, in the hope that things will be better. It has challenged my perception of how humans treat each other, and made me wonder what life in the coming years will be like. Jersey Scandal - when abuse is systematic and carried on for decades in a place designed to protect the disadvantaged, then the abused have to live in a small community alongside their abusers - that must be what meant by living in hell.

Serbia: new election, same results
http://blog.foreignpolicy.com/node/8836on the part of the EU to win over Serbian voters. But “victory,” this election was not. If anything, Sunday has shown just how little has changed in Serbia this year -- despite Kosovo and despite the EU. Once again, the SRS, whose founder currently stands trial at the Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, garnered its standard 29 percent of the vote, while the democratic bloc again proved too uninspiring to pull Serbia out of its muck of power hungry political personalities. The Liberal Doomsayer

What a shame “no one could have predicted” this, even though President George W. Milhous Bush “looked into Vlad’s soul” years ago.

Head uudised on valimistulemused Euroopa Liidule, kuna nendest valimistest võib hakata pikk tee kogu Balkani Liiduga ühendamiseks. Lisaks vähendab EL’i meelne valitsus õigeuskliku Serbia sõltuvust Venemaast.

Putin's farewell gesture
http://blog.foreignpolicy.com/node/8816It looks like one of the last bits of business of the Vladimir Putin presidency may have been the expulsion of two military attachés from the U.S. embassy in Moscow. The move could be retaliation for the expulsion of two Russian diplomats from Washington in recent months. For those hoping that U.S.-Russia relations might improve under the Medvedev presidency, this is not a promising sign.

Gender equality, Berlusconi-style
http://blog.foreignpolicy.com/node/8825her of the medieval law letting estate lords deflower virgins on their wedding night. This, in turn, provoked a public letter-writing war between Berlusconi and his wife that played out in the pages of Italy's newspapers. Berlusconi has previously remarked that right-wing female politicians are more beautiful and the fact that his new environment minister was once named "Miss Parliament" is also probably not a coincidence. The Berlusconi show is back in town, folks.
