The Sonic Idiot

Q: What is a “sonic idiot”? A: Someone who acts in a significantly counter productive way, as it relates to understanding audible sound (i.e. audio). Art is the process or product of deliberate arrangements to effect the senses or emotions. Audio is an art form, and like any art form its understood with a certain sensitivity and appreciation for beauty. This is more commonly known as taste. The four major processes involved in delivering the final audio product are known as Recording, Mixing, Mastering and Production. And this site is building a written body of editorials, articles, reviews, polls, interviews and the occasional rant all about these processes. Our hope is that each day, through the contributions on this site, that little ‘sonic idiot’, that lives within each of us, will become less influential over our tastes and decision-making during the audio production process.
