  1. The Moving Day mess

    http://spacingmontreal.ca/2008/07/04/the-moving-day-mess/

115,000 households packed up and moved on Tuesday, making it quite possibly the single largest instance of a mass moving day in North America. Wax Scrawls: Novels, Mystery Shoes and the Google Burger

With a title like that, you can guess a lot about its tone and the sort of reverence it has for the novel, but the article does a good job at gleaning some interesting stuff. Spacing Montreal ask why you always see shoes on power lines. There answer is charmingly ambiguous and the same as mine: they have no idea. This site aims to catalogue the opening sequences of movies and TV shows on DVD. Neat. And finally, NY Mag have a great write-up on Nas

    Comme les Chinois

From Beijing, back in April, I wrote an article for Spacing Montreal on the Beijing Subway during rush hour, at the Xizhimen interchange. Here are some of the many pictures that I took on the subway, perhaps the only moment of daily rest (the distance between stations is so long in Beijing) that I

Montréal Monday: Shoes in the Sky, pedestrianizing la rue Ste-Catherine, and Montréal’s hotel boom

    http://spacing.ca/wire/2008/06/30/montreal-monday-shoes-in-t...

    • When Julie Fournier woke-up one morning she found a pair of yellow sneakers dangling mysteriously from the power lines outside of her bedroom window. This was not the first time she has seen shoes dangling from power lines in the city. In her post, Shoes in the Sky, Julie looks for an answer to the age-old question, what are those shoes doing up there? • Since the beginning of the year Spacing Montréal has posted a series of articles (1/2/3) on the proposed summertime pedestrianization of Montréal

re busy buttressing up the telecoms anyway, some more cctv related stuffs, including a Manchester band that filmed a video entirely on CCTV, for want of cash. Is this what post-lofi looks like? In Montreal, even the fashion police are in on the act, using it both to track suspected criminals and, ridiculously, monitor the brand spreading of corporate logos. I wonder if it would make people start dressing more consciously - a kind of Hearst/ Condé Nast elevator effect? Hopefully
