With gas at $3.50 a gallon in April, the U.S. mainstream media is replete with stories of drivers abandoning SUV’s, hopping on mass transit, and otherwise cutting back on gasoline. Yet a year or two ago, when pump prices were approaching and even passing the $3.00 “barrier,” the media mantra was that demand for gasoline was so inelastic that high prices were barely making a dent in usage. …

Understanding and marketing to GREEN consumers
http://blog.andrewkinnear.com/2008/05/understanding-and-mark...of government. Government influences Industry via policy (via their wallet) which leads to actionable change by industry, and a possible improvement. Carbon trading blasted by indigenous groups
http://gristmill.grist.org/story/2008/5/6/112852/6216without actually contributing to solving global warming. The highly respected Institute for Policy Studies seems to think so, too [PDF]. Very odd of them to take such a position. Because, after all, there are no alternatives to carbon trading.

Americans grow up
http://gristmill.grist.org/story/2008/5/4/204737/7867Clinton and the gas tax holiday, I didn't imagine that a plurality of my fellow citizens might be ready to embrace my conclusion: that this century's defining energy policy issue is energy prices that tell the truth. Okay, it's just one poll, and a carbon tax isn't necessarily around the next corner. But for someone who has toiled for decades for measures to internalize the external costs of everything from nukes and jet skis to driving and carbon, this poll is sweet indeed.
