    Coming back up for air…

The worst chore: The chore is then replaced with the word “sex” and reread aloud. They then end up with . . . “I hate sex because (the reason they hate their chore)” For food I’m doing tacos al pastor with tostones, jicama-melon salad, guacamole con frutas, mango salsa and coconut tres leches cake. I’m thinking mocktails for drinks, since the bride doesn’t drink. I want to have one each of a green drink, a orange drink and a pink drink. The current plan is

    Watercress & Avocado Salad

    http://thespottedapron.wordpress.com/2008/05/12/watercress-a...

watercress was too stemmy, I could have definitely cut off more of the stem, but it was still good.  Avocado is one of my favorite foods and this salad really made it’s taste and flavor stand out.    Watercress & Avocado Salad Adapted from Gourmet May 2008 1/4 cup rice vinegar 1 tablespoon grated sweet onion such as Vidalia or Walla Walla (use large holes of a box grater)
1/4 cup finely grated peeled Gala apple (use small holes of box grater)
 4 teaspoons soy sauce

of being spread and stickable on the cake. One tasteful rendition: So, flourless chocolate cake with chocolate ganache is good but to really put it over the top I made up a cranberry dessert sauce. It was pretty similar to this one from the chocolate torte made at Thanksgiving and Emily's nominee for best chocolate dessert of all time. If you try it at home you really need to make the sauce. The chocolatey goodness can be overwhelming without the cranberry sauce to balance it out. But together, super.

    http://featured.chefmom.com/2008/05/12/back-to-barley/

was thick and rich and very filling. It was perfect for winter nights - or even chilly spring nights. I decided to look up some other barley recipes, and there are quite a few out there that look interesting. There’s Barley, Feta, and Pear salad, Barley Risotto with Asparagus and Hazelnuts, Barley and Apricot salad, and many, many more. Some of these recipes could work well for picnic salads and wraps. Roasted Barley Pilaf 1 tbsp olive oil (butter also works nicely) 1 c pearl barley, rinsed

I’ll supplement with yogurt, Veggie Booty, and boxed milks. Tuesday: Pasta with chicken sausage and spinach. Another family staple. Wednesday: Choir/baseball night! Leftovers and/or quesadillas for the kids, fettuccine with Brussels sprouts and pine nuts for the adults. I didn’t used to like Brussels sprouts, but now I love them. Thursday: Baseball night! Ham and cheese paninis.* My oldest would prefer pastrami, but it was just a little too salty. Like other nights at the baseball field, we’ll

    A Feather Adrift

spend about 10 minutes time making a loaf of bread. I use the fast rise yeast and never have a problem. Essentially bread dough is quite forgiving. You just add flour until you can work it. I use my KitchenAid to do the kneading. See what you think of Georgian Cheese Bread. I would dearly love to have raised beds in my vegetable garden. It’s just so neat and I think you can get bigger yields, and it makes weeding a lot easier, and there are fewer weeds to begin with. It
