Fallout Central at the Asian Excellence Awards

choices, such as Margaret Cho for comedy.  And Bobby Lee as a presenter?  It sometimes seems like AXA is in the business of giving awards to anyone who will take one. But the real story here is that these Fallout Central guys are everywhere!  They’ve only been around for a year, and they are doing an awesome job at getting the stories!  After a great first year, they got a press pass to the Asian Excellence Awards, and they covered it in style.  They are seriously hardcore (and not just because of that last endorsement on

Free Sex for Rice Chasers: A Review of Free Food for Millionaires by Min Jin Lee

honestly, so I took a little artistic liberty with the title of my post in order to make it more relevant to the discussion that follows. Fallout Central interviews Min Jin Lee, author of “Free Food for Millionaires.” You can find the interview here. The 44’s has commented on this book in the past on our message board, and I shared a word or two in one of my other blog posts, but I don’t think I’ve yet shared all my views on the book itself.

    21: racist or just entertainment?

    http://thehawaiiherald.com/2008/04/09/21-racist-or-just-ente...

s a facebook group calling for a boycott of the movie and blogs questioning the presence, or absence thereof, of racism. But it’s not just the internet masses who are weighing in on the debate, according to this article in Fallout Central, Hollywood super-director Steven Spielberg, who has already resigned from his role in 2008 Olympics over human rights abuses in Darfur, has called 21 “the most egregious example of our industry’s human rights abuses.

And while poverty exists globally, shooting some bum on the street or an old tiny woman with 400 pounds of junk on her back in [insert exotic place] doesn't turn you into James Nachtwey. On the other hand, if you take a pic of a little chinese kid taking a drag, send it on over because that is tragically funny. My point - even though your subject may be an exotic place, person, animal, or ritual - our photo editors and buyers won't want it if the image isn't perfect.

    Fallout Central, ep. 3/11/2008

    http://www.reappropriate.com/?p=1113

Ticker segment, then I stuck around for the discussion on the Chinese Laundry ad with Brown University student, W.J., and the debate on Asian American Studies at Hunter College and — of course, my favourite topic ever — Bai Ling!! Check it out here. For those of you in the Boston area, the Fallout Central guys have been invited to give a seminar at Wellesley College at an Asian American student conference, the weekend of April 5-6. Unfortunately, I could find no other information on the event.
