I think, as far as career goes, you must love what you do to be effective. I was always a firm believer of finding something of value to "help people." Then, after reality kicked me in the crotch (the reality many students experience after leaving college, wide-eyed), I became frustrated with stupid trends (Bieber, Gaga, sagging skinny jeans, straight-brimmed hats), and really disappointed in the seeming lack of social quality that mars our culture (entitled teens, reality television, dependence upon media and electronics in favor of conversation, and general lack of courtesy), that I started writing about it. In a world where people sue others for coffee that's too hot and loafers easily collect free government handouts rather than look for jobs, Making Some Sense is a blog about frustrated, common-sense thinking.
