Unexpected Radical I spent a little time at the weekend reading the newspaper coverage of the campaign started by David Davis here in the UK. Davis was until Friday one of the most senior members of the opposition Conservative party, a political grouping that continues to struggle for credibility …

Please Vote For My Photo
http://www.webmink.net/2008/06/please-vote-for-my-photo.htmYou may remember last year my posting about being unable to get my photograph of Sydney Opera House onto iStockphoto. The problem was that the Opera House has an over-broad interpretation of trademark law that they are trying to use to control the market in photographs, and iStock is respecting rather than challenging it. …

European Open Source Observatory and Repository, EC considering Open Source Migration, German Migration Guide available: links 05-07-2008
http://robertogaloppini.net/2008/07/05/european-open-source-...research on whether it should migrate to Open Source software or not. Carlo Piana commented saying that the Commission should be more thorough in following their own policies. EU: SUN and Novell to governments: there is plenty of Open Source support - Simon Phipps says there is enough support available for Open Source projects of any scale. It sounds a bit over optimistic. DE: Manual for migrating to Open Source updated -The German Ministry of the Interior has published the third edition of its

Getting to Know Simon Phipps and his Thoughts on Open Source
http://www.stuermer.ch/blog/getting-to-know-simon-phipps-and...Simon Phipps, Sun’s Chief Open Source Officer, in his much nicer hotel. We went with the train to Bern where we discussed several interesting issues such as IBM’s deadly weapon to destroy Sun or Google’s absence in own contributions to OSS projects. In Bern

Dark Views
http://darkviews.blogspot.comAdoption-Led Market Simon Phipps followed wth a talk about the "Adoption-Led Market". It's astonishing how many OSS projects Sun supports or started and how little is known about that. Marketing again. *sigh* His talk wasn't all about Sun but how people start to despise vendors or

Faux Blogger
http://blogs.sun.com/webmink/entry/faux_bloggera full blog entry for it. When I got busy (it happens from time to time and usually involves aircraft), all blogging would stop for the duration of the trip. So over the last month, when I spent 28 out of 35 days travelling, that would have meant the blog going dark for a whole month. People used to complain about that, so I got with Dave Johnson and devised a feed aggregator of the kind FriendFeed has now made available to everyone. The problem with the aggregator was all it showed on those trips was
