Perfect Timing for Tiger's Win
The timing of Tiger Woods' win this past Sunday could not have come at a better time. Since his personal issues in 2009, Woods has not been the same on the course (failing to win a PGA Tour event since the occurrence). More importantly, his reputation has taken a huge hit, causing companies such as Gillette to drop him from their celebrity endorsement list.
Many companies, however, have kept Woods as a representative, including EA Sports. The video game publisher includes Tiger Woods' name and picture on every game cover. Woods and EA Sports began their relationship in 1999 and signed a 6 year extension in 2006-- Meaning it ends at some point this year.
Ironically enough, EA's Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 2013 is being released this week, March 29th, 2012. With this expiring contract in mind, Woods had some extra incentive to win this weekend.
This weekend's win also must make EA very happy, as they look to surpass last year's weekly record for sales in the franchise's history.
Despite last year's sales record, another motivational factor for Woods may have been the cover of the game, where last year's game was covered with The Masters symbol and Augusta National Golf Course. This year, Woods shares the cover with young stars Rory Mcllroy and Ricky Fowler.
