What to do with all the nice glossy print spreads laying around? How about re-purposing them for the Internet? Publishers have been looking for new ways to grow their subscription base since consumers have been turning away from print and on to mobile, tablets or PC's to read content.

One company has made it easy for publishers to leverage existing print materials with a cost-effective print-to-digital solution that even non-technology savvy publishers can use. This means with little investment companies can get more out of their already produced print content.

Issuu, a leading magazine, catalog and newspaper digital publishing platform recently rolled out a service called Adpages which makes it incredibly easy for even novice publishers to leverage existing print materials for the digital world.

The company is by no means just starting out, founded in 2006 and boast more than 50 million monthly users and approximately 3.2 billion impressions per month according to a recent article. The service is similar to Google AdWords, MSN AdCenter or Twitter's Promoted Tweets, advertisers set a budget and are only charged when users actually click, call, or in the case of Adpages, open a document.

The difference with Adpages is users aren't redirected away from the site as in adsense, but remain on issuu's reading platform opening a full-spread digital publication reader with the print promotion displayed in an easy to read format.  The advertisements are chosen to compliment what users are viewing on the Issuu platform, so they are engaged at the right time and place.  For instance, someone looking at a magazine about the London Jazz Festival will be shown items complementary such as ads for a music magazine or jazz music.

This allows publishers who don't want to create a whole new digital strategy to easily take full advantage of existing investment in print promotions, catalogs and publications. The issuu platform is excellent for community papers, college newspapers and other small to medium sized outlets who don't have an enormous budget but still want to take advantage of the digital medium as a delivery and advertising vehicle.
