An Airline That Gets Accolades - It Could Happen
Apparently, great domestic air travel does exist. Travelers just need to go to Alaska to find it, because customers ranked Alaska Air (NYSE: ALK) as the best in the J.D. Power and Associates survey for the third year in a row.
The distinction was awarded as part of the release of J.D. Powers's annual North American Airline Satisfaction Study.
"Receiving this honor for the third year in a row is a testament to not only our operational focus on running a safe, efficient, on-time airline, but also to our talented and dedicated employees, who have continually worked to deliver on our customer promises," Alaska's President Brad Tilden said.
Alaska Air received high marks from fliers for its baggage fee policy. The airline is the only US carrier that charges a baggage fee to offer a baggage guarantee. The program allows for air travelers receive a $25 voucher if their bags are not to the carousel within 25 minutes. The airline is revising its policy as of June 10 to allow for bags to get to the customers five minutes sooner. That means the bags have to be out in 20 minutes. If not, a customer will receive a $20.
Alaska Airlines ranked high in six of the study's seven measures, including boarding/deplaning/baggage service and fees. Alaska is the only U.S. carrier to offer a Baggage Service Guarantee, after implementing baggage service fees last year.
