Conan O'Brien Buys Mashable for $3,500 while CNN is Left Crying
As I woke this morning I was looking for some inspiration to blog about. One of the many blogs I frequent daily, of course after Technorati, is Mashable. To my surprise I see Conan O'Brien at the top and an article that explains his purchase of Mashable.com for a mere $3,500. So my interest was peeked.
Now I know that CNN is probably crying as they watch this video. I then decided to check my old friend Google and see what he had to say about this. I quickly realized that this was one of many April Fool's Day jokes around the web. Now I had the sneaking suspicion that this was just that, but I couldn't ruin it for you! Some other April Fool's day jokes include Keith Olbermann's take over of DailyGrind.com. The thing that most don't see is the work put into this by all parties. Among this being EPIC April Fool's Day jokes, this is also a GREAT MARKETING strategy! April 1st having the reputation as "April Fools Day" combined with a fake take over by a known face (especially one that is extremely suprising) is an awesome way to start a trend of going viral! I think that Pete Cashmore, Conan O'Brian, Russel Simmons, and Keith Olbermann all had the right idea when they constructed these "jokes"! Google has also jumped on the wagon of the April's Fools Day jokes rolling out 8 Bit Maps and one day only weather control.
