Microsoft Touch Scares Away Skype Execs - Page 2
Pressure in business, like in most other fields of human endeavour, rarely leads to great things, though it has its notable exceptions. If Microsoft manages to make this work the way it should it will also have achieved a much-needed change of direction and, even possibly, internal culture; a thing it sorely requires in order to compete successfully with Google.
From direct corporate experience I know this is hard to achieve. Its entire corporate structure is staffed with execs and foot soldiers who got in under the current status quo and are unlikely to be angels of change. This leaves anything Microsoft decides to do to chance (should it present something truly new and awe-inspiring).
My belief is that it will, most probably, present something trite couched in some ‘newspeak’ marketing package and throw good marketing money behind it to try and make it stick. If it does that, the Skype we know will be well and truly sank and the fleeing of the rats will then be seen for the omen it now only appears to be.
