Competition for advertised jobs is fierce. Likewise, it is crucial that you tailor your letter for the jobs you apply to. To eventually make the closed list, you should use your cover letter to explain why you are the top candidate for the job. You could also supply data to offset any probable weaknesses. Here are some tips to further strengthen your cover letter.

Your cover letter should be written to the potential employer with the job you are interested in. A customized greeting will place you in a better position relative to other job seekers who employ non-custom salutations. You will also avoid the misstep of writing a cover letter that appears to be generic. Likewise, the hiring manager may read the rest of your cover letter.

Speak to individuals in your professional and personal networks who work at the company with the job posting. Ask these individual for the decision maker's name. If you are unlucky, ask these individuals for referrals to other employees who work for the organization. You may also call the organization and ask the individual who answers for the name of the person in charge (or the appropriate hiring manager depending on your experience level) of the division with the opening.

Attract the interest of the potential employer with the opening statement after the salutation. It should contain the purpose for your contact, the position you are applying for, and why you should be considered. Likewise, the decision maker could read your entire cover letter.

Describe why you are the best applicant for the advertised position. You can accomplish this by matching your previous achievements with the job requisition's requirements. Also mention the prior problems you helped solve, that are like the issues your potential employer is currently experiencing. This is data you should have gathered once you reached out to current and previous employees of the organization. Likewise, you will increase your chances for a call or meeting.

Hopefully you have positioned yourself as a desirable applicant for this advertised position. Next, you should allure the hiring manager to call you. You can achieve this by stating, "To find out how I decreased sourcing expense by 98% for XYZ Company, contact me at your earliest convenience to schedule an interview."

Take a proactive overture by mentioning you will call the hiring manager if you do not hear from him or her within a certain timeframe. Likewise, you will have a reason to follow up on your candidacy by contacting the potential employer.
