Warren Buffett Joins Twitter
Warren Buffett, the chairman and chief executive of Berkshire Hathaway, has joined the Twitter service under the @WarrenBuffett username.
Buffet's first message to the Twitter masses was a simple "Warren is in the house". The 82-year-old's Twitter account gained official verification from Twitter later on Thursday.
Buffet could potentially become one of Twitter's most followed users. After only ten minutes of creating the account, around 10k Twitter users had followed him; around 140k users had followed the Berkshire Hathaway CEO by mid-afternoon Thursday May 2nd. These users will likely be hoping for a few Golden nuggets of investment advice from the so called "Oracle of Omaha".
Buffet is listed as the world's fourth-richest man and is often seen as one of the most respected investors. Other recent users who have signed up to Twitter include the former U.S. President Bill Clinton and the News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch.
Buffett is due to address the Berkshire investors this weekend at the companies annual meeting.
The above comes in a week which had the Dow Jones index jump above the 15,000 level for the first time in history and the US dollar index bounce from recent lows. The surge in equities was in part attributable to the latest non farm payroll report which showed 165,000 jobs were created in the US last month.
