Would You Steal a Colleague's Lunch?
No, I'm not sure I would either. A new survey of office workers by Robert Half International has found however that stealing someones lunch is one of the biggest faux pas committed in the workplace.
he survey revealed some of the horror stories of office life. Literally things that even The Office didn't include in their story-lines. One employee had a colleague that gave up on a project by throwing their papers in the air and screaming "stuff this" as she walked out of the room.
Another worker reported seeing a colleague take a picture of a coworker sleeping at her desk and sending it to the boss, while another said a coworker was spotted purposefully sneezing into the boss' coffee.
Respondents also reported seeing colleagues clipping their toe nails at their desk, mocking other employees in public, shouting at customers, walking around barefoot, talking on the phone whilst doing their business in the toilet and yes, stealing colleagues lunches from the staff kitchen.
"In most cases, a minor etiquette slipup won't likely be career-limiting if you quickly acknowledge it and learn from your mistake," said Brett Good, a senior district president for Robert Half International. "But continual missteps have a cumulative effect that can chip away at your professional reputation and get in the way of advancement."
The company said the survey was conducted to coincide with the release of its video series, "Don't Let This Happen to You," which offers advice on avoiding common breaches of workplace etiquette.
