Creative Partnerships for Business Owners More Than About the Dollar

Business/Cultural alliances have time and again proven they can improve the financial vitality of downtown. The Colorado Business Committee for the Arts witnessed $1.7 Billion come into their fair city from artistic endeavors. Oregon’s Business for Culture & the Arts has a long tradition of inviting business leaders to join the board of a variety of arts councils, providing a bridge between thriving business and cultural legacies.

Nobody would question the success of intermingling leaders of business and the arts via New York’s Arts & Business Council. According to an executive summary done by the Council, although businesses see a corporate gain from being a part of an artistic alliance, many stay on more so in support of arts awareness in underserved communities, and arts-led movements to ameliorate the harmful effects of poverty, hunger, violence, and homelessness.

As a small business owner, how can you improve the financial outlook of not only your personal bottom line, but also of those businesses next to you, and the community as a whole? Look to the arts.

Local Artists

Remember, many galleries and artists themselves are small businesses in their own right, with their own set of concerns and needs. Invite local art businesses to join the Chamber of Commerce and attend meetings. Would local businesses consider putting some of their works safely on display for others to see? Helping bring a local artist’s works to your customer’s eyes is a favor that might get returned in the form of customers heading back in your general direction.
