Funny Video for Traffic? Why Not
Sometimes, being too serious bores people. Speakers in tuxedos, in nerdy glasses, and in slick British accents are very common on innumerable YouTube videos on the web. We are marketers, but it doesn’t mean we have to talk the Bloomberg language to show our grave passion for business and for helping other people succeed. Sometimes, or oftentimes, what we think is helpful may actually be detrimental; something that is more worthless than not doing business at all.
And what’s wrong with being funny?
Funny does not mean you have to be mean and green to capture one’s attention, or you have to step on someone else’s name to sound contentious. To be humorous is not just being controversial; it’s about being effective in stirring your viewer’s emotion through that means. You just have to be cleverly funny and not too ironically comical and slapstick.
If you run out of ideas, just simply make a parody of your company. Make use of your employees, your friends, and even yourself. Moreover, remember that an effectively funny video has to have a good script with good actors to deliver it.
Parodying your competitor
Parodying a competitor is crucial and very sensitive. It can start a fight or ignite a serious business feud. However, parodying a competitor does not have to be foul to be viral. A very good example of this is Opera’s response video to Google Chrome’s test speed ad. They nailed it without even mentioning any competitor’s brand. They just used the potato peg and that was it, and millions of traffic effectively followed.
YouTube is so crowded with business videos; it is as if it’s the only nook for free advertising. Everyone uploads their videos on this website hoping for clicks. A funny video is useless without it promoting your social networking sites or optimizing it for SEO. The only assurance you can get from uploading your video on YouTube is Google knows the site very much and they easily crawl and index it. Posting your hilarious videos on your blog is also one good way of promoting it. Be temporarily funny and let your followers watch you daily. If you’re not yet that confident with your new video, you can always have it tested by your close friends, and then just launched if you got positive results from them.
