2. Send occasional surprise alerts. Sometimes you have to make room for new merchandise or you need to drum up business. Send an exclusive message just to your text customer base. Be sure to mention that this exclusive sale is just for them.
3. Tell customers what to expect. When discussing the benefits of your texting program with potential opt-ins, tell them exactly what to expect. A simple script is, “Once a week, we will text you with our specials. And, occasionally, we send out one-day sale notices. You don’t want to miss those because we only send them to our text list.” This sets the expectation and gives them the benefits of signing up.
Text message marketing is an effective marketing tool in your arsenal. Just treat it with care or you could become the enemy.
