Lifestyle writer Kitty Bradshaw moved about 3,000 miles to find her blogging niche.
Her blog, KittyBradshaw.com touts a take on New York life from a Californian's perspective. Kitty is originally from Los Angeles, and finding herself in New York she didn't turn into a fish-out-of-water tale. No, Kitty says New York embraced her and she reports news as she cat walks over it in her pumps.
We got a chance recently to catch up with Kitty and see a little about what it's like for a California woman to be living and working in The Big Apple.
Technorati: Your blog says you review all things New York, but with a California perspective. Could you elaborate on that a little bit?
Kitty: First, I would like to mention that everything good comes out of California.
I originally moved here to New York back in 2008; and I was so super scared, and overwhelmed with this place. Being from the most relaxed state in the country now living in the most competitive place in the world. I decided to build a website around my own unique perspective: “The California Perspective." My website is a love letter to New York.
P.S. Did you know that New York has the highest amount of Oakland Raider fans living outside of California? I just thought you would be excited about that fact since you are based in California. Of course I am a Raider fan ... that has nothing to do with this article, but I wanted to mention it. Yes, I am rambling, lol.
Technorati: One of your recent blog posts was about a California winemaker at a New York Event. How do you think Barefoot Wines fit into the New York lifestyle, and are New Yorkers spending much time in their bare feet?
Kitty: That California winemaker came to New York and threw a party. I adore Barefoot winery; they are so super supportive of my brand. I especially love the head winemaker, Jennifer Wall. I introduced myself to them by making a video ... I won them over with my slurred speech and LA charm lol.
Technorati: You're very active on several social networks; how has than contributed to your blog's success?
Kitty: In all honesty, Twitter is my bread and butter. When brands want to know who I am directly, they come to my timeline. For those who don’t get scared off, they ask me to work with them. From the day I set out to blog, I made up my mind that I would grow it organically. The last I checked network stats, I had 88% engagement. That 88% translates to me being able to sell my Tweets and Facebook updates.
Technorati: In a recent tweet spree, you wrote about how New York kind of sucks you in, even saying "You can never be happy anywhere else." What do you think it is about New York that does that to people?
Kitty: Tweet Spree?! Lol is that the fancy way of saying Rant?
You don’t choose to live in New York, New York chooses you. If you come here without being selected, you will go back home with your tail between your legs. You know when you’re selected… it immediately starts to call to you like a lover. New York is my soul mate! The first time I came here, it literally took my breath away. I went back to California and could not think of anything else. I began to spend all of my money flying back and forth; New York ruined me for living any other place. I lived in Maryland for two years prior to coming here…. I hated it. Although, I get home sick for California, my place is here. I know this passage sounds strange... I am in a mentally abusive relationship with this place, lol.
Technorati: Wait, what happens to your blog if you ever do leave New York???
Kitty: Isn’t it a little morbid to talk about death in an interview? Since you must know, I requested to be buried in California with all of my gadgets so that I can live blog from beyond. will live forever!
It appears from her answer that Kitty isn't planning on leaving New York in this life!
