Gay marriage and comics don't seem to be limited to just the stories themselves. In celebration of the gay wedding occurring in the X-men comics, a comic shop in New York recently hosted the wedding of a gay couple, continuing the tradition of comic books being ahead of the culture curve, even as some groups protest on behalf of "the children."

Dark Horse continues to stay ahead of the culture curve by releasing six new comics and two great collected editions this week.  Titles are scored on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the very best possible. We take the time to read these books so your time isn't wasted.

Fatima : The Blood Spinners - Issue 1

This is a new mini-series from Gilbert Hernandez, co-creator of the Love And Rockets series, that is a nice counter to mainstream zombie stories. It does all the things George Romero did well by commenting on societal issues yet managed to invoke Bram Stoker's Dracula by infusing the story with sexiness.

The story focuses on a DEA agent named Fatima dealing with a powerful narcotic that has a terrible side-effect of turning the user into a zombie. It's hyper-critical of recklessness in our culture based upon the belief that there will be cures for all of our ails. It's quirky and biting. Kudos go to the name of the issue's villain ... Puggy Bittermeat.

Score: 9.5 out of 10

Angel & Faith - Issue 11

Though a lot of enjoyment is found within because of the appearance of many characters not seen in a while, the issue take a while to get going as it's a lot of arguing in one location. The story does setup the next arc which should be fun. The artwork it just OK. A lot of this mixed feelings are found within the weak facial art. Nostalgic.

Score: 7 out 10

BPRD Hell On Earth : Exorcism - Issue 1 (of 2)

Everything starts with a sinister and disturbing cover and it carries right through the story. The interior artwork is excellent with great facial expressions and imaginative layouts. If you can believe a demon, possibly everything going wrong in the Hellboy universe might be salvageable but the stakes are very high and the priests are very angry.

Score: 8.5 out of 10

The Guild : Knights Of Good - Collected Edition
