Dark Horse Comics - New Release Reviews For August 1, 2012

Artists and publishers aren't the only groups embracing the growing medium of comic books. For a long time, the content was focused mostly on super-heroics and good versus evil. Well, a new group is embracing this genre and they would argue they have the first hero who triumphed over evil. The Christian Comic Arts Society is focused on creating comics that are in line with their devotion to their god as well as creating forums and environments conducive towards those of their faith.

Dark Horse Comics has one new comic out this week and several collected editions that are sure to excite Christians, everywhere. Titles are scored on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the very best possible. We take the time to read these books so your time isn't wasted.

Beasts Of Burden - Collected Edition

This one shot collects three shorts from the Dark Horse Presents anthology and what a collection it is. These are, easily, the best contributions to that anthology and this is a wonderful, wonderful collection. The art is gorgeous and the writing is brilliant. The stories are both beautiful and sad.

The Incredible Adventures Of Dog Mendonca and Pizza Boy - Graphic novel

This is an English language adaptation of a Portuguese graphic novel about a werewolf, a demon, and a pizza boy fighting against Nazis while searching for missing a children and a stolen scooter. It's just as crazy as that description sounds.

The story is fun. The artwork is excellent with great attention to detail and vibrant coloring. It seems to loose a bit in the translation but it still is enjoyable. Even the dark and somber moments are few and the humor breaks this tension.

Hellboy Library Volume 5 - Collected Edition

The wild thing about Hellboy is he's rarely proactive. Most of the time, things just happen around him and it's all he can do but hang on and punch. He punches a lot. This massive collected edition has quite a bit of punching. And it has drama and amazing art. And it's a great value.
