Comic books very rarely catch the eye of the government but the character Superman is presently in our judicial branch. A US District Justice will be ruling soon if a relative of Superman co-creator Joe Shuster will retain partial rights to one of the most recognizable characters in the world.

The question is mostly about a 1992 settlement with Shuster's estate and whether all rights reverted to publisher DC Comics. New Release Reviews are the only judges, this week, looking at 6 new comics from Dark Horse Comics. Titles are scored on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the very best possible. We take the time to read these books so your time isn't wasted.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer : Spike - Issue 1

This new series fits within the Season 9 of the Buffyverse. The cover is sort of strange and funny at the same time. The insides are strange, as well, and almost as funny. The story has some nice character evolution for Spike amidst a neat back drop of the moon and then space. The direction change is sudden, but it could be fun.

Score: 7.5 out of 10

Dark Horse Presents - Issue 15

This a pretty good issue with a lot of decent stories. One of the best is Concrete Park which comes with an excellent soundtrack found on its website. Buddy Cops is weird and funny and has near infinite potential. Rex Mundi has a gorgeous style and a lot of subtext. Sabertooth Vampire is just funny.

Some of the stories are mixed bags. Aliens is great to look at but the best parts deal with morality and consciousness. Nexus is more weird than scrumptious. Love Hurts is light and menacing. And Girl With Keyhole Eyes is a little too auteur for comics.

Finder continues its mostly consistent position of being confusing and a bit cold, which isn't great. Also, not great was Ghost which looks fine but the characters are bland and they do little to make the drama seen real. Wild Rover, too, looks great but it's on the bubble of significance. Riven tells a disjointed tale about something ominous.

Score: 7.5 out of 10

Fatima : The Blood Spinner - Issue 3 (of 4)
