Dark Horse Comics - New Release Reviews for January 9, 2013
2012 was a great year for comics and Dark Horse Comics in particular. One of their longest running, and most popular series, saw a huge spike in sales. The Hell On Earth storyline was running primarily through the B.P.R.D. series but that all changed when Hellboy returned to comics, though it's not clear if he returned to life.
Issue One of Hellboy In Hell completely sold out and reprints won't be available until issue three is available. Critical responses have been favorable to this new series. Dark Horse follows this up with several new comics this week including a great new B.P.R.D. story. Titles are scored on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the very best possible. We take the time to read these books so your time isn't wasted.Star Wars - Issue 1
This new series from Brian Wood (The Massive, Conan) fills in story between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. And it is outstanding. Right from the start, the reader is given a beautiful cover evoking memories of the original posters.
All of the hallmarks of the original trilogy are present. Familiar faces. Humor peppering intense adventure and action. Unexpected intrigue as it deals with politics and military operations. Avoiding the trappings of the less enjoyable Star Wars comics, there is very little Jedi action.
Score: 9 out of 10
The Legend Of Zelda : Hyrule Hystoria - Special Edition
The Legend Of Zelda is a long running video game franchise that began in the 80s by Nintendo. It was immensely popular with dozens of editions during that time. Enormous effort and attention was applied to its creation and this Hystoria lavishly presents much of this effort.
Even people who weren't fans of the game will be impressed by this compilation that is bursting with history. The book deals with development, art, characters, languages, and even a full length manga story. The English translation is outstanding and the design is stunning.Continued on the next page
