Dixie Carter Dies at Age 70
Actress Dixie Carter, best known for her role on the popular sitcom Designing Women, has died at the age of 70. The details of her death have not been disclosed.
Carter, who was married to fellow actor Hal Holbrook since 1984, is survived by her husband and two daughters, Ginna and Mary.
A native of Tennessee, Dixie was able to channel her inner Southern charm for her most enduring character, Julia Sugarbaker, the matriarch on Designing Women. The show ran from 1986 to 1993 on CBS and centered around the four Southern women who were partners in an interior design firm, along with their male counterpart played by Meshach Taylor.
More recently, Dixie appeared on another popular TV show, dramedy Desperate Housewives, for which she received an Emmy nomination.
