One thing in life that seems consistent is that when Dreamworks puts out a DVD, the feature is cool, but the real fun is in the extras. On September 27, 2011, Dreamworks released a “Halloween Party DVD Pack”—two DVDs to usher in the Halloween spirit.

Scared Shrekless celebrates Shrek’s favorite holiday—Halloween—with the gang getting together and telling scary stories. The winner is the last one to be scared out of his or her wits—or scared Shrekless. Spoofs of popular horror classics abound—“Boots Motel,” anyone? Original Shrek cast members Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Antonio Banderas are featured. The extras include a parody of “Michael Jackson’s Thriller,” Puss in Boots singing “These Boots are Made for Walking,” and the inevitable (and always welcome) previews.

There are some great music videos on Scared Shrekless from “World of Dreamworks Animation,” including: “I’m a Believer” (Shrek), “Fly High” (How to Train Your Dragon), “Kung Fu Fighting” (Kung Fu Panda), “I Like to Move It” (Madagascar), and “Mega Rap” (Megamind), as well as videos from each of these films.

The second DVD in the party pack is Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space, featuring original voice talent from Monsters vs. Aliens: Reese Witherspoon, Seth Rogen, Hugh Laurie, Will Arnett, Kiefer Sutherland, and Rainn Wilson. The story involves an investigation of “a mysterious Alien Presence on Halloween,” and –wouldn’t you know it?—all those sweet jack o’lanterns are actually mutant aliens intent on world takeover.

Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space include the “World of Dreamworks Animation,” plus a karaoke music party with Ginormica, B.O.B., and Dr. Cockroach Ph.D. and The Missing Link; “Modern Monster Movie-Making;” and previews.

Both titles have English, French, and Spanish subtitles and are not rated in the United States, rated G in Canada.
