Welcome to the first New Release Reviews for IDW Publishing. We're continuing to add publishers to this series of reviews and IDW is our source. They've got a lot of great film and television properties and this week starts off with some outstanding examples. Titles are scored on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the very best possible. We take the time to read these books so your time isn't wasted.
30 Days Of Night - Issue 8
This issue has multiple covers available and each one is gorgeous. The covers convey raw emotion and horror. The interior art is alright. It has a stylistic quality that works for the tale but is kind of difficult to follow. There is an excellent recap of events at the beginning. The story expertly builds a menacing sense of dread that the vampires have the humans seriously outgunned.
Score: 7.5 out of 10
Doctor Who Season 2 : As Time Goes By - Collected Edition
The artwork is very bare and spartan, which is somewhat disappointing. Luckily, the story makes up for this translating the voice and wit of the Doctor, Amy, and Rory into comic form. The writer nails their speech and it helps propel the tale at a quick pace.
It's a fun, silly adventure that fits perfectly into the television show's universe. Right down to the Doctor's desire to save everyone. And, of course, there is the brilliant intersecting with the characters from the film Casablanca.
Score: 6 out of 10
Dungeons & Dragons : Shadowplague - Collected Edition
This Collected Edition contains the first six issues of this series. It's crazy fun and exciting with fresh, entertaining characters. It's very straightforward requiring no prior knowledge to understand and enjoy.
It has a fine amount of humor and just the right amount of heart. The artwork is solid with consistent coloring. There is some excellent D&D humor that may be lost on non-role players but it won't detract from the story.Continued on the next page
