IDW Publishing - New Release Reviews For November 14, 2012
Licensed properties are a major source of content for IDW Publishing. This week they have releases involving Star Trek, Doctor Who, G.I. Joe, and the video game Borderlands. Other publishers are taking on less natural properties, such as Marvel Comics and the NBA. Two recent projects highlight this.
In October, Marvel launched a comic book based upon Miami Heat basketball player LeBron James, which you can read here. Another project was recently announced to help hype the Brooklyn Nets recent move, and not without some controversy. IDW Publishing has several new releases, this week, including three licensed properties.Titles are scored on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the very best possible. We take the time to read these books so your time isn't wasted.
Locke And Key: Omega - Issue 1 (of 6)
The end is near, as is apparent with the story-line's name. This kicks off the final six issue arc of the series. It starts with a nice recap, and then spends a great deal of time focusing on the characters. This is probably done so it will hurt more when they meet their untimely fates.
Hurt is the key word, as everyone is revealing hurts that have lingered a long time. It's a sad story, with a horrible situation. The covers have a great look and they match the interior. An excellent horror comic book.

Borderlands: Origins - Issue 1
This is a comic book based upon the popular video game, of the same name. This story seems to be back-story for one of the characters in the game. The creative team does a fine job creating connections between the reader and the characters, even if there is an abruptness to the story. It's violent, yet it has warm moments. The artwork is workman-like and it had nice colors.
