IDW Publishing - New Release Reviews For December 5, 2012
For all the highs and great accomplishments by publishers, the industry is still about people. And given the longevity of the industry, deaths are becoming more common. Recently, two artists of note have passed away. Ray Zone, one of the great pioneers of 3D comics died right before thanksgiving. Not only did he draw quite a bit of 3D, he published books on the history and science of the art.
IDW Publishing had a recent loss, as well. Josh Medors passed away at a young age from cancer. Medors had provided artwork to IDW series 30 Days Of Night and Criminal Macabre. Both artists are mourned by the creative community. The show continues for IDW Publishing with six new comics this week. Titles are scored on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the very best possible. We take the time to read these books so your time isn't wasted.
The Pound : Ghouls Night Out - Issue 4
This series is a fine mix of serious drama as well as sporadic light humor. This is a frustrating example of too many high-powered characters without any fear. It's hard to become invested as there is little doubt they'll be victorious. Still, it's an imaginative universe and it has a lot of potential. Plus the artwork and cover are solid, with lots of drama.
Score: 7.5 out of 10
Joe Schreiber's Chasing The Dead - Issue 2
Continued on the next page
This is a horrendous story about a very awful person doing some very awful things. The violence and gore is extraordinary and kind of unreal. There is some sort of supernatural mystery at play and it's more frustrating at times. The first issue's cliff-hanger was resolved very poorly. The art is bland and the protagonist has one facial expression. It's hard to become excited about future issues.
