The holidays tend to be a tricky time for retailers and publishers. Lead times for production and shipping are challenging and many publishers don't release little or no product during the week between Christmas and New Years. A different issue came up that is affecting IDW Publishing.

A strike closed the port of Los Angeles last week, impacting releases for not only the week of the 26th, but for some titles originally scheduled for this week. Hopefully the seven titles reviewed below aren't affected. Titles are scored on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the very best possible. We take the time to read these books so your time isn't wasted.

Doctor Who Star Trek The Next Generation : Assimilation - Issue 8

Score: 7 out of 10

Joe Palooka - Issue 1

This is a typical piece of fiction about a person wrongly convicted of a crime and forced to flee. Along the way, he tries to right wrongs. Oh, and he's a boxer. The cover tells you half that. The rest of the time he's in Latin America with one set of clothing. It's not very good.

Score: 3 out of 10

Judge Dredd - Issue 2

This issue is all steak and no sizzle. It's a good value but it comes at the expense of reflection and introspection. It's a violent tale but not without some cleverly placed humor. The back-up story was not very engaging. There were several covers and most were fun. Especially the ones with Dredd wielding batons.

Score: 7.5 out of 10

Alan Robert's Killogy - Issue 2

It's a bad sign when the reader hopes the zombies eat the humans quickly. That's the kindest thing that can be said about this bizarrely, horrible comic book.
