Welcome back to this week's New Release Reviews for Image Comics. Sales talk is big in the news this week with reports coming from Diamond Distribution that overall sales are at their highest level since 2003. Some are speculating sales are mid-nineties levels which is shocking given the state of the economy. The over-all quality of releases are better than ever, as Image Comics is going to try to prove this week. Titles are scored on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the very best possible. We take the time to read these books so your time isn't wasted.

Alpha Girl - Issue 3

Alpha Girl has a youthful style of art but the subject, dialogue, violence, and overt sexuality gear this for an older audience. There is humor to this story that anyone could appreciate.

The artwork is rather simplistic but it still manages drive the story forward. It has a stylized quality that some may like and others not. The weakest aspect of the issue is the strange decisions the characters make.

Score: 6 out of 10

Dancer - Issue 2

This second issue matches the first issue in cinematic flair. Everything else is pedestrian. Bland dialogue. Odd facial expressions. Subdued coloring. Unclear plot developments. And major plot-points revealed with no reaction from the characters. Oh, and typos. Just weak.

Score: 6.5 out of 10

Invincible - Issue 92

This is just a great, great issue. As long as you ignore the silly super-power fight in the beginning of the book. The best conflict is between the characters and that's what elevates this series over most. The emotions shared are stellar, and the reader is rewarded by being shown how they deal with adversity.

There are three relationships that dominate this issue and each one has poignancy. However, the gem was between Monster Girl and Robot. There is such raw and devastating history between the two of them and it just explodes off the page. Brilliant.
