Image Comics - New Release Reviews For August 22, 2012
One of the greatest of comic book legends is in the news for a few reasons, these days. Former Image Comics writer Alan Moore has been the topic of several news stories. The biggest would be for his refusal to accept money from DC Entertainment, for his support, for their Watchmen prequels. Millions of dollars.
Additionally, Moore is doing something that hasn't happened in twenty-five years. He's going to be attending a comic book convention. It's in England but the distance is worth it for such a rare event. In the meantime, Image has 5 new comics and 2 new collected editions out this week. Titles are scored on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the very best possible. We take the time to read these books so your time isn't wasted.
Invincible - Issue 94
This issue was previously reviewed, last week. It's strange to think that in a super-hero comic, the super-heroics might be the least interesting aspect of the story. In this story the fighting is nearly irrelevant, and mostly very difficult to tell where/when it's happening.
Everything in this arc continues to be about Rex Robot and Monster Girl. Their story is infinitely more interesting that what's happening in the rest of the story. Their relationship is amazing so beautiful. Or tragic. Perhaps both.
Score: 9 out of 10
America's Got Powers - Issue 3
This issue was still pretty solid, but it lost a step from the prior issues. The focus on the science and military has gone on long enough and it needs to focus more on the kids. The art is fantastic and it's pretty enjoyable. It just needs to get moving a bit faster.
Score: 8 out of 10
Super Dinosaur - Issue 13
This issue was missing the one thing that was dragging prior issues down and that's a lot of adult characters talking and feeling sad. For the target audience, this issue has everything. Kids getting into trouble and lots of dinosaurs. Fun story and fun art.
Score: 7.5 out of 10
