Jay Leno Back On The Tonight Show Due To A Technicality
What was once crazy has now turned to complete insanity. According to TMZ, who is uncannily accurate, NBC has struck a deal with former host of The Tonight Show Jay Leno, who will now be returning to the show he handed over to Conan O'Brien seven months ago.
Really? Really. This is the best solution they could come up with? Well, I guess if you are going to go nuts — go totally, balls up, ape-shit crazy NBC. Don't hold back now.
TMZ is stating "As we first reported, under the contract Jay had been working under, he was guaranteed the 10 PM hour. By moving him to 11:35, NBC was in breach of his contract and needed to negotiate a new deal."
Earlier in the week there were reports that Conan had hit a snag in negotiations with NBC because his lawyers hadn't forced NBC to guarantee him the 11:35 time slot for his hosting duties on The Tonight Show. So this means Jay Leno wins on a technicality, which is technically a win, but it's also a real crappy move by both NBC and Leno.
In reality, this is probably the best outcome for Conan. He will likely end up with some kind of show on FOX, who will give him the creative freedom to do what made him great on his show Late Night With Conan O'Brien. Jay will come back to fallen ratings, and the overall disdain of the world. However, the news cycle will move on and people will forget (except Conan) and while he won't ever be where he was, Leno will survive. NBC will end up in ratings purgatory for their massive failure, lack of common sense and moral judgment.
As for me — what do I care, I watch cable after 10pm anyway.
