ManhatPro Converges with Tribeca to Promote New Music and Film In NYC and Globally
The Manhattan Producers Alliance is a media education, professional mentoring and networking community comprised of Oscar, Grammy, Tony and Emmy award-winning musicians. Manhatpro.com's purpose is to promote composition, performance and recording in NYC, particularly within the realm of film scoring. The Manhatpro.com site features news, education, events and a membership page.
Robert DeNiro and long time producer-partner Jane Rosenthal started Tribeca in 2002 in response to the 9/11 attack.Since then the festival has generated an estimated $725 million in economic activity for the area largely thru screening 1,300 plus films from 80 countries since its inception. The 2012 festival (April 19-29) features 90 films from 32 countries, starting with the romantic comedy The Five Year Engagement, starring Emily Blunt and Jason Segel.
From an Hollywood Reporter article, “Tribeca Film was founded as a distribution platform to help filmmakers find audiences and, equally important, audiences find films utilizing new connections and strategies,” said Tribeca Enterprises chief creative officer Geoff Gilmore.
With Manhattan Producers Alliance and Tribeca Films joining forces, both filmmakers and music creators can join forces in a united effort to create and promote film and music to new audiences. Marvel's, The Avengers, will close the Tribeca Festival.
In Feb 2012 ManhatPro announced a West Coast chapter Based in San Francisco, to be headed by GRAMMY-winner Steve Horowitz (Super Size Me, Nickelodeon Digital). Obviously ManhatPro isn't just about NYC, but reaches out on a national/international scale. Composers, sound designers and other music pros can join a global network via webinars, videoconferencing, social media.
ManhatPro was founded in 2005 by NYC-based composer Joe Carroll (Jim Henson Company, Nickelodeon, Disney, WGBH). Matt Grippo is CEO of MPA.
