NBC Suggests Separation of State & Church During U.S. Open
The flailing network NBC is being slammed for its suggestion of separation of church and state in its coverage of the U.S. Open Championship.
The Pledge of Allegiance is more than just an observance of the American Flag. It is an observance upon the fundamentals for which this country was built upon. To pay respect to the American Flag is to pay respect to observe the way of life that this country was built upon. The Pledge of Allegiance as it is; is truly one of the last standing aspects of patriotism that this country has.
I respect the fact that there are a multitude of cultures and religions out there that do not observe each and every single line of that which we hold dear; however, cutting lines from it is simply unacceptable and frankly very offensive. Even more so, NBC’s poultry apology for this travesty.
I Pledge Allegiance to the flag, of the United States of America. And to the Republic, for which it stands, indivisible, and with liberty, and justice for all.
Is there something missing from this? Yes.
“One Nation Under God.”
Are we all believers of God? No, and I truly respect that.
However, to tamper with an American institution is not an option. NBC went under fire on social networks across the country within minutes of this and rightfully so. Apparently, maintaining this important text from one of our nation’s institutions is unacceptable, yet airing minutia on a daily basis is.
This becomes more than just the simple argument that state and church should be divided, it shows that we are incapable of paying respect to our own culture in the process of trying to respect everyone else’s. There is no way that we can please everybody, but we should not have to step on our own toes in the process of trying.
Sure the affairs of this nation are anything but organized and solvent at this point. However, I believe the U.S. would proactively “maintain” that it tries to respect, observe and represent the cultures that breathe life into the diversity that we hold dear; we should still be able to hold our own roots dear too, right?
If there is any truth to the fact that this country still respects its own fundamentals, then NBC has just proven us to be a nation of liars.
