New Pittsburgh Theatre Company Opens Season

Pittsburgh's newest theatrical venture, Throughline Theatre Company, opens its initial season with a production of Aristophanes' feminist anti-war comedy, Lysistrata.
The bawdy romp in which the women of Greece revolt against their warrior males has long been a staple in the Western dramatic canon and a favorite with audiences. Six performances will run Thursday through Saturday for two weekends beginning June 3rd at the Seton Center in Brookline. Thursday and Friday shows begin at 8, Saturday's at 5:30. The production is directed by Ryan Tierno and stars Pittsburgh favorite Audrey Castracante in the title role.
According to their web page is the brainchild of a group of theater students who met at Catawba College in North Carolina. The group gravitated to Pittsburgh, home of two of the founding members. Liam Macik, actor, playwright and jack of all theater trades is the artistic director. Managing director is Lauren Connelly, a mainstay in recent years at the South Park Theater.
Throughline's four play season continues July 15 with Jean Anouilh's Antigone; a new play, Bastards and Fools, by artistic director Macik, in August, and Steve Martin's adaptation of Carl Sternheim's 1911 comedy, The Underpants in October.
